About

A few random truths about Claire...

Most people would guess that I’m a classic extravert, but they don’t have a clue that I’m a closet introvert.

It took my husband and I a decade to realize we were more than just best friends. Cheers to knowing what you're getting yourself into and getting to spend a lifetime with your best friend by your side.

I'm always on the lookout...
I have a somewhat justified fear of birds from experiencing far too many miscommunications between myself and the avian species as a whole.  To name just a few, while fishing in a kayak a bald eagle eyed me up and aggressively swooped down over my head and stole the fish I was about to catch. While having a picnic on an island, a seagull clipped me in the forehead while trying to steal my sandwich. In third grade, a parrot landed on my head during show and tell. He frantically clawed into my head to peck at the fake sunflower on my amazingly stylish jean hat for over 20 minutes. Driving to the west coast on a rainy morning, I accidentally clipped an owl with my windshield wipers. Choosing my virtual totem to be an owl is my attempt to make peace with the avian society.

Coincidentally, if I could have any super hero power I would choose to be able to fly.

These two are always ready for an adventure.
When I’m not teaching, I’m outside running, skiing, hiking, backpacking, playing ultimate frisbee, basically embarking on any adventure that I can find.

I was a gymnastics coach all through high school and college. With each passing day of teaching, I realize how much I learned how to teach by being a coach first.

My happiest days are when I drag myself out of bed early enough to start my morning with a little bit of yoga and when I’m feeling really ambitious I attempt to do a few handstands.

Quick teacher facts...
I have known I wanted to be a teacher since I was five years old.

Since I started teaching I have developed a daily tea addiction. Perhaps because I conveniently take sips of tea in the middle of class when I want my students to take the time to retract what they just said without me prompting them to.

My students accuse me of having too much energy.

I have degrees in general education K-5 and special education K-12 with an endorsement in emotional impairment. So far, I have been a middle school Learning Resource Center teacher and a high school Learning Resource Center teacher.

The more challenging a student is the more I seem to enjoy teaching. I’m still undecided about how I feel about that reality.

I really do believe teachers are superheroes.
